RE: Popular w/ Neighbors w/ TH in driveway!

Regarding hurricane Ike, we ran the full range of issues among family and friends. We were blessed for the most part. My house did well with the exception of one of our oaks (100-120 year old 50-60' tall). It went to the neighbor's back yard taking their oak with it. 1 1/2 days of cutting cleaning up. My employees had downed trees, leaking roofs and water damage, broken fences etc. Most importantly, no injuries or major damage. I have one woman who works from her house in Galveston and will make her first visit to it Wednesday.

RE: Anyone else run out of room in there toyhauler? Suggestions

I built a platform for the back of my wife's rhino and load my son's Grizzly 90 on top sideways. My tailer is a bumper pull, so I still have room to buy 1 more toy to carry there.

RE: Help w/ Carefree Outback awning installation

PERFECT!! THANK YOU!! I was concerned that the brackets were in the wrong place on mine. I'm on track and will finish drilling my holes now that I know they will be in the right place!

RE: Popular w/ Neighbors w/ TH in driveway!

I'm glad we don't have trailers parked in front, next to or on top of houses in my neighborhood. "The Woodlands" is a beautiful community and that is why so many people want to live here. To each is own I guess.

Help w/ Carefree Outback awning installation

I need help! (or pictures of yours). I installed the top awning rail and the top mounts on the side/corner of the camper. The instructions clearly state the the 4 side mounts must be one over the other, not installing the top ones on the overhang. Here's my question - The top mounts are at the top of my door. The directions say to mount the bottom mounts 20" below that. That puts the bottom mount below my chin! Will I still be able to stand under the awning with the bottom mount that low? How did I go wrong? The top mounts look exactly like the instruction manual and the pictures online. I can't tell where the bottom mount is based on the pictures on the company's website. Does anyone have pictures of where theirs is mounted? I'M AT A STANDSTILL AND WON'T PUT ANY MORE HOLES IN MY CAMPER UNTIL THE GREAT FOLKS OF RV.NET BAIL ME OUT!

RE: Onan 5500 oil change

I've been taking advantage of hurrican Ike having my camper at the house (which is usually not allowed) fixing stuff and not putting on my Outback ramp room. I bought the thing nearly a year ago and it was still in the box! Power has been back on since Wednesday, so I have to finish today so as to not annoy the neighbors with whom I get along great with. Just a matter of respecting the rules.

RE: Onan 5500 oil change

COAT HANGER!!! I think a bug(s) started something up there. I poked it with a coat hanger and out came the oil!! Yeah! Job done.

Onan 5500 oil change

I know you TH people have done this yourselves. I put the drain pan under the gennie and turned the valve to drain the oil, but the oil won't drain. What am I missing? The oil is full to the recommended level.

Popular w/ Neighbors w/ TH in driveway!

Living in a restricted neighborhood with a TH in the driveway wouldn't usually go over well with the neighbors. Especially leaving it sit there for a week or more. Have a hurricane pass through, lose your power, and the neighbors don't mind so much if they can plug in their fridge with their extension cords. Our lousy power company told us this morning that we would be out of power for another 10 days in my neighborhood. My wife decided to pack up the kids and go to visit family since it was going to be so long. She get 3.5 hours away, 15 minutes from my father's house when I called her to tell her the power came on despite their report hours before. If you think she was happy the power came on, you'd be wrong. I had to remind her of our kids in the backseat so she would watch her language. :E The TH helped tremendously. All our neighbors were scrambling for generators and fuel. We had more than enough in the tank for a week+ if we needed it. Time to return it to storage tomorrow before I get a letter from the homeowners association ;) (as if I care at this point).

RE: "Danger" decal in the living room of our new XLR

What would happen when you sell it? The new owner "will" store fuel in there. I sure hope so. Otherwise why would they buy a TH to haul toys? The sticker refers to gasoline and gas engines IN THE GARAGE! :h

RE: "Danger" decal in the living room of our new XLR

Try heating it up with a hair dryer and slowly peeling it off..then if necessary a little clean up with GooGone. +1 Hair dryer will soften it up and do the trick

RE: Will codes clear or do I need to have them cleared?

Disconnecting the battery for a minute or two works. That's what I use to do before I bought a programmer.

RE: Thefts of Catalytic Converter and Spare Tires

If you add security to yours, you will be one in a thousand. Crooks are going to spend the extra time for the 1 in a thousand, but instead will move on to your neighbors. Most thieves are thieves in the first place because they are lazy.

RE: Fridge takes FOREVER to cool down

You will get better response if the moderator moves to another forum other than just to the TH group.

RE: Fridge takes FOREVER to cool down

Same here! Every once in a while it will cool off quickly. Sometimes mine takes 2-3 days! There has to be something wrong!

RE: Faulty Valve Stems

I recently received a recall note from Discount Tire to replace the ones they put on my vehicle.

RE: Radio Hum

Talk to a stereo shop. You can buy a filter that connects to the positive power feed to the stereo that helps remove the hum.

RE: Quad Encounters of the WIld Horse Kind (pics)

Wait a minute. I smell a rat (horse)! I thought all you westerners were ruining the environment and harming the wild life? (says Sierra Club) I'm not seeing any of that going on in your pictures. What gives??!! On a serious note, what a great ride and experience. I'm jealous! Thanks for sharing.

RE: New member with a towing question

1/2 ton truck would suffice. Bigger is better and more expensive. Longer wheel base would give you the best stability.
